An adversarial collaboration to accelerate research on the neural bases of consciousness

The first study completed by the COGITATE consortium to test the predictions of two of several debated theories of the neural foundations of consciousness has been uploaded to the bioRxiv open repository.

COGITATE is am international adversarial collaboration to accelerate research on consciousness as a neuroscientific phenomenon. Sylvain is member of their Scientific Advisory Board and a co-author of the study.

The New York Times reports today on the context of this unique endeavor and the main findings of that first study. The data collected so far will be shared openly after the study is peer reviewed, for all scientists to test empirical predictions of these and other theories of consciousness. A second study is slated for completion over 2024. This effort is funded by the Templeton Foundation.
